August 20, 2012 - Kolar Gold Fields(KGF) - MICID-108-12
The gold mines of KGF were closed down in 2001 due to reducing deposits and increasing costs. After the shutdown, jobs are hard to come by and people over here struggle for day to day living. The poor children at KGF study in St. Dominic Savio School. The school has classes from nursery to Standard VII. The poor children’s families cannot afford even a monthly fee of Rs. 100. The teachers in the school are high school pass outs who work at a salary of Rs. 2000-3000 a month. The class rooms have broken benches, and are separated by thin screens. The nursery children have no toys or colors as learning aids. The school has 200 children enrolled this year, about 60 of them cannot afford the fees.

MicroCharity is supporting the school by providing school uniforms. A pair of school uniform costs Rs. 450/-. With Rs. 450 you can sponsor uniform for one child.
