Suja Jayakumar from Kanjirapally, a 38-year old house wife has been suffering from Thrombocytopenia, a condition in which there is abnormally low volume of platelets. As platelet count falls, there is increased chance of bleeding and anemia. During the past 15 years of her illness, there has been multiple hospitalizations for blood and platelet transfusions. 2 years back, she was terminally ill and the doctors at Kottayam medical college had given up on her cause. She was later diagnosed with ITP (immune thrombocytopenic purpura) and has been asked to undergo hysterectomy as soon as possible.

But first, her platelet count and anemia has to brought under control before the surgery to prevent further complications. The prior treatments and hysterectomy will together cost them Rs.1 lakh. Suja’s husband, Jayakumar is a daily wage labourer and her 12-year old daughter, Maanya, is in school. The family has already been struggling with hospitalizations and transfusions for her, and Jayakumar cannot afford this emergency treatment right now. They approached MicroCharity for financial support with Suja’s treatment.
