Children from Bodo, Karbi and Garo tribal communities from Kaki, Hojai Dt., Assam are in dire need of our financial support for their education. These communities depend on agriculture, cultivating the land only once a year depending heavily on rainfall due to lack of any artificial means of irrigation. Many of them do not have their own land, often cultivating in other’s land for a 50:50 share of produce. Three social evils of alcoholism, illiteracy and superstitions keep these and many other tribal communities in Assam poor and undeveloped. Education is not a priority and kids are sent to school only for the free food and clothing that government schools provide.

St. Thomas Mission School, a residential English medium school strives to provide high-quality education for these children, at the same time aiming at uplifting the whole community. The school is 10-13 kilometers far from their village, making it impossible for the students to commute daily. They also provide boarding facilities, which will help the children’s social skills, confidence and independence.

The school and hostel fee is much more than what most families in this community can afford. Hence the school is looking for sponsors for few of the children. They approached MicroCharity for this intent, and we decided to sponsor 3 children.
