Medical Support for Nimal – March 2021

Oct 1, 2012 - Kochuthovala, Kattappana, Kerala (MCID-111-12)

Nimal is paralysed from waist down. The tragedy hit her about 10 years ago when she was studying in 12th grade. She had a fever and during the treatment the doctor administered a wrong injection which made her paralyzed from waist down. A hip replacement surgery was done to make her walk, but that made her condition worse. They have very little land which is mortgaged for her treatment. The family is unable to repay the loans as they have to spend on the treatment. She had a tumour in uterus and she had to go through a hysterectomy. Now she is also suffering from kidney stone problems.

Oct 16, 2012 - MicroCharity approves the fund request

Microcharity is supporting Nimal and her family by bearing a part of the medical expenses. Microcharity approved Rs. 10,000 for the year 2012. The plan is to raise Rs 10,000 for her in each quarter of the year and continuously support her in medical expenses.

Oct 18, 2012: MicroCharity raised Rs. 10,000 from 8 different individuals in 2 days. The fund is transferred to Nimal’s family.

January 29, 2013 - Fund raising for Quarter 1, 2013

Nimal has not been keeping well these days. She is now admitted at a hospital due to continuous nausea and vomiting. This is due to the hormone level issues she has been fighting with. The fund raised by MicroCharity was utilized to treat the hormone issue. She is also suffering from severe muscle strain. MicroCharity decided to continue supporting her by raising Rs. 10,000 for the first quarter of 2013.

MicroCharity is continuing to support Nimal by raising Rs. 10,000 for the Third quarter of 2013. Nimal is still not doing good. Recently, her Calcium levels dropped very low and she is currently hospitalized at St Johns Hospital, Kattappana, Kerala .

Feb 1, 2014 - Fund raising for Quarter 1, 2014

Nimal has not been keeping well, and she was recently diagnosed with pituitary tumor and infection. In addition, she is also having problems due to Hiatal hernia. St. John’s Mission Hospital, Kattappana has sent her to Amrita Hospital for additional tests and check up.

The family is unable to keep up with all the medical expenses. MicroCharity approves an increased quarterly support amount of Rs. 50,000 this time, to help the family with the medical expenses.

Dec 22, 2016 - Fund Raising for Quarter 1, 2017 (MCID-130-16-17)

Nimal has been hospitalized with some complications, including a growth in the pituitary gland. It started as a pain on one side of the head then then started spreading to the neck and arms. They have to get CT and MRI scans done, and also start new medications in addition to the existing ones. The family approached MicroCharity for help in meeting the hospital expenses.

June 01, 2020 - Fund Raising for Quarter 3, 2020 (MCID-100-20-21)

Nimal has been paralyzed waist down for the past 18 years, as a result of a wrong injection administered to her in childhood. She has gone through a lot of hospitalizations and medical procedures; and her family is still struggling to fund her treatment. MicroCharity has been supporting her with Rs.10,000 every quarter or Rs. 40,000 every year. The family has always been extremely grateful for our support, and has never asked for more. But MicroCharity team felt that it would be good to increase the amount considering their increased expenses, to Rs.15,000 a quarter. Requesting all donors to please stand with us in this decision to increase our donation amount.

Martina Martina completed her PUC and has joined BCom. Her father is still not able to look after the family, and her mother’s meager income is not sufficient to fund her college fee.

College fee for 1st year BCom is INR 35000, of which MicroCharity is sponsoring INR 25,000.

Jan 4, 2020 - Bangalore, Karnataka(MCID-117-19-20)

Martina from Bangalore, India needs our help in completing her PU course. Her father is a drunkard who does not look after the family. He comes home drunk late at night most days, causing a lot of nuisance to the family. Most of the days, they all have to go and seek shelter at a convent close by to escape the violence at home. Her mother, Elizabeth is working as a helper at a factory nearby earning INR 6000 per month.

Martina completed her 1st year PU with help from the nuns at the convent, and few other well-wishers. The nuns also advised her to move into a hostel so that she would not be troubled by her father’s behavior. Course fee for second year PU is INR 25,000 and hostel fee comes to INR 40,000. The family approached MicroCharity for financial assistance since they are not able to afford the college fee.

19-year-old Somina needs our help in starting her Medical Imaging course. Her father is a daily wage laborer and her mother is a home maker. She has a brother and sister who are still in school. Somina’s father earns Rs.20,000 per month and is not able to sustain their daily household expenses plus children’s education.

They have taken an education loan for Rs. 40,000. But that’s not nearly enough to pay the college fee of Rs. 1,01,600 for Somina’s vocational course in Medical Imaging Technology (B-Voc MIT). So she approached MicroCharity for financial assistance.

Bibin Mathew needs our help in completing his ITI Electrical course. His father is an auto-driver who also does some farming in their own land. He is not able to work regularly due to his ill-health, and earn only about Rs.5000 per month. His mother is a homemaker, and his sister is still in school. The family has no means to pay the ITI college fee of Rs.35,000 from the meager income of his father.

Bibin managed to collect Rs.5000 from his friends, but he is still short on money and struggling to fulfill his dreams of studying further. He approached MicroCharity for financial support through a well-wisher.

Deepu, an ambitious young man from Vandanmedu, Idukki needs our support to continue his studies. He secured an admission for MCA course by working hard and with support from well wishers. He wants to complete the course to support his family.

Deepu lost his father when he was young. His mother’s small job is not sufficient to support the family’s needs. He has a younger brother doing his degree course.

The yearly College fee alone is INR 63,000. He has other expenses and Hostel fee to pay.

Deepu’s mother Sathi is a cook at a school near their house and earns Rs. 3,000 per month. That’s not nearly enough to meet the family’s daily expenses along with her children’s education. Deepu managed raise some money for his first year MCA course, but this year, he does not have any means to pay the 2nd year college fee of Rs. 60,500. MicroCharity continues to support Deepu in paying the fee for his MCA course.
