Medical support for Nimal
Latha and her three children, aged 18,14 and 13 have gone through more misfortunes than most of us can imagine. Latha was working as a kitchen assistant in a hospital. But she suffered severe burns from a kerosene stove explosion, resulting in her leg being amputated eight years back. She has not been able to work since then, and is still in need of medication and treatment about a decade after the mishap. She is also allergic to most medications making it extremely difficult to treat even minor illnesses. Latha’s husband was working a plantation. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and passed away in February 2018.
Joseph from Mundakkayam, Kerala is doing his BTech in Mechanical Engineering. He will be able to enter the final semesters of the course only if he remits the college fees on time.
His family is struggling financially as his father is under treatment for Kidney failure. The only income the family has at the moment is his mother’s pension which is not enough to meet the expenses.
Jainamma Joseph from Changanassery, Kerala has to face the heavy Kerala monsoons under a leaky roof. She’s single and living all by herself. She is also offering services as a counsellor at a retreat center close to her house. After Jainamma recovered from a very serious illness, she decided to dedicate her life to the Lord. She is currently living in a small house in 4 cents of land, constructed with help from the Panchayat and well-wishers.
MicroCharity has been supporting Merlina from 4th standard. In spite of many adverse condition like her father’s death, her mother’s inability to go to work, and living with her uncle who wanted them to move it, Merlina got decent marks in her 1st PUC examication. She’s in 2nd PUC now, and the family is in no position to pay the college fee.
Twin sisters, Jeraldina and Jeromina’s story is not different from many lower income families in Bangalore, India. Their dad Sesu Raj, the sole bread winner of the family makes about Rs.200 per day working as an auto driver. But he is a chronic alcoholic and does not go to work regularly. The family is now struggling to get the kids to school. The little girls are in 1st standard and at a risk of not going to school at all, due to their financial difficulties. They have other loans to pay off and also a monthly rent of Rs.1500 for the house they are staying in.
“I realize that every mature tree by photosynthesis absorbs 20kg of CO2 every year. By the same process, each tree lets out about 14kg of O2 every year.”This is part of the environment oath taken by every member who planted a tree during this tree plantation drive. JCI Nalukody with support from Junior Jaycees, the children’s wing, organized a tree plantation drive on World Environment day. JCI took order from people for different fruit trees, by publishing on social media. Those who gave the order were supposed to have pits ready for planting trees in their compound. JCI members procured the saplings from nurseries and took them to these houses. They planted the trees together and also took an oath promoting awareness of environment protection and importance of trees.
Jibin Joseph is a severe autistic baby with cerebral palsy by birth. He has no sense of hearing and is unable to speak. He walks a little. He cannot feed himself. He is studying in Adarsh Rehabilitation Centre, Tripunithura, Ernakulam – A Special school for the habilitation of children with Cerebral Palsy. His mother takes him to the school everyday. They rely on public transport to commute to the school. Also, the mother has to be with him throughout the school time. He is on medication for the last few years. Every month he is taken to a hospital for medical checkup.
Ms. Kochurani Mathew, Nalukody, Changanacherry is the only breadwinner of the family consisting of Husband and 2 sons.Her husband met with multiple accidents over last 3 years after which he is unable to work. She earns her living by undertaking small tailoring works at her home which is not enough for her to maintain the family. The two sons are brilliant students studying in class 11th & 12th, both of them where school toppers in their respective class 10th.
