Sheeja, a 35-year-old lady from Pathanamthitta, Kerala has more worries on her plate than she can take on by herself. Her daughter, Karthika passed away in December 2019 after a long battle with brain tumor. Medical expenses required the
family to take multiple loans from banks and from other sources, but the little girl could not be saved. Sheeja is now living with her 11-year-old son, Karthik and her aged mother-in-law. Sheeja used to do some tailoring at home, and also supply snacks to neighbouring homes. But there is no fixed income, and the family is now struggling to take care of their expenses. They are staying in a rented house and paying the rent with help from well-wishers. She has a housing loan of 6 lakhs, a Rs. 50,000 loan from the society and also a few personal loans.Her son, Karthik is not well. Sheeja herself underwent a heart surgery some time back. But to take care of their expenses, she now wants to start a textile shop. They have already shortlisted a shop for Rs. 10,000 rent per month. She also needs to get some cloth materials for Rs. 40,000. This family desperately needs our help to stand on their feet after their massive loss.

Nimal is paralysed from waist down. The tragedy hit her about 10 years ago when she was studying in 12th grade. She had a fever and during the treatment the doctor administered a wrong injection which made her paralyzed from waist down. A hip replacement surgery was done to make her walk, but that made her condition worse. They have very little land which is mortgaged for her treatment. The family is unable to repay the loans as they have to spend on the treatment. She had a tumour in uterus and she had to go through a hysterectomy. Now she is also suffering from kidney stone problems.

Oct 16, 2012 - MicroCharity approves the fund request

Microcharity is supporting Nimal and her family by bearing a part of the medical expenses. Microcharity approved Rs. 10,000 for the year 2012. The plan is to raise Rs 10,000 for her in each quarter of the year and continuously support her in medical expenses.

January 29, 2013 - Fund raising for Quarter 1, 2013

Nimal has not been keeping well these days. She is now admitted at a hospital due to continuous nausea and vomiting. This is due to the hormone level issues she has been fighting with. The fund raised by MicroCharity was utilized to treat the hormone issue. She is also suffering from severe muscle strain. MicroCharity decided to continue supporting her by raising Rs. 10,000 for the first quarter of 2013.

Nimal has not been keeping well, and she was recently diagnosed with pituitary tumor and infection. In addition, she is also having problems due to Hiatal hernia. St. John’s Mission Hospital, Kattappana has sent her to Amrita Hospital for additional tests and check up.

The family is unable to keep up with all the medical expenses. MicroCharity approves an increased quarterly support amount of Rs. 50,000 this time, to help the family with the medical expenses.

Nimal has been hospitalized with some complications, including a growth in the pituitary gland. It started as a pain on one side of the head then then started spreading to the neck and arms. They have to get CT and MRI scans done, and also start new medications in addition to the existing ones. The family approached MicroCharity for help in meeting the hospital expenses.

She has gone through a lot of hospitalizations and medical procedures; and her family is still struggling to fund her treatment. MicroCharity has been supporting her with Rs.10,000 every quarter or Rs. 40,000 every year. The family has always been extremely grateful for our support, and has never asked for more. But MicroCharity team felt that it would be good to increase the amount considering their increased expenses, to Rs.15,000 a quarter. Help Shanil get back to Business!

In the early hours of Sunday, March 1, a major fire incident affected the office of Archikites in Payyannur, a Website Design and training company run by Shanil who is a member Vijayee Bhava Batch (VB9).

Hopefully, no one was hurt. But, the fire destroyed the entire 2200 square feet space. Shanil lost about 25 computers, other office equipments, and the interior of the office is damaged beyond repair. The net loss is estimated to be about 25 lakh rupees.

Shalat, daughter of Shaji and Shanty from Pathanamthitta, Kerala will have to discontinue her Nursing course without our financial support. Her father Shaji is a farmer who is not able to work these days since he has a steel rod inserted in his legs post a recent accident. Her mother is a home maker and younger sister is still in school. The family is struggling to meet their daily expenses.

Shalat got admissions in a private college where the total fee for first year is 97,500. They have already paid 31,000 and need our help in paying the rest. They approached MicroCharity for financial support.

But she is coping well now, and very keen to continue her studies.

Her mother, Laly is working as an accountant at Rs. 10,000 salary per month, which is the only source of income for their family.

They have already spent a lot of money for Shajan’s treatment and family is now struggling with education fee for Nikitha and her younger brother, who is still in school. The college fee of Rs. 30,000 has already been paid. But hostel fee of Rs. 15,000 and exam fee of Rs. 4,500 is still pending. The family has been staying in a rented house for the past 18 years and is struggling with their expenses. Hence, they approached MicroCharity for financial assistance.

Martina from Bangalore, India needs our help in completing her PU course. Her father is a drunkard who does not look at the family. He comes home drunk late at night most days, causing a lot of nuisance to the family. Most of the days, they all have to go and seek shelter at a convent close by to escape the violence at home. Her mother, Elezabaeth is working as a helper at a factory nearby earning Rs. 6000 per month.

Martina completed her 1st year PU with help from the nuns at the convent, and few other well-wishers. The nuns also advised her to move into a hostel so that she would not be troubled by her father’s behavior. Course fee for second year PU is Rs.25,000 and hostel fee comes to Rs. 40,000. The family approached MicroCharity for financial assistance since they are not able to afford the college fee.

Amil had problems with his urinary bladder from birth and was undergoing regular scan and treatment. But 6 months ago, he had a sudden infection and both kidneys failed. Doctors have recommended a kidney transplantation at the earliest at a cost of Rs. 8 lakhs. His mother is the donor. The surgery was scheduled for 31st of December, 2019, but they could not do it since Amil got high temperature. Once he’s better, the surgery will be scheduled again. His family is not in a position to meet these hefty medical expenses, and approached MicroCharity through our volunteers.
