The Government UP School at Nalukody, Kerala has been providing education to children from financially backward and troubled families for the past 116 years. Though the school gets government aid, most of the infrastructure expenses need to be funded by the school itself. There is also a Kindergarten which is independent from the school, but is crucial since it serves as a feeder to the main school. This section does not get any government aid.
Since the children are from poor families, the school has to provide everything from books, uniforms, bags, umbrellas and even their meals. The Headmaster of the school approached JCI Nalukody seeking support for school uniform for 30 new LKG and UKG students. JCI Nalukody in association with MicroCharity decided to sponsor 2 sets of uniform for these 30 children, along with annual subscription of newspaper and journals for the school.
The uniforms would cost about Rs.750 per child. Total cost for uniforms and subscriptions come to Rs.27,500
