Nammude Keralam – Shop Renovation after Kerala floods for Satheesan

57-year old Satheesan and family were affected badly by the Kerala floods. He is a carpenter who was running his own shop, employing three other people with him. His shop was completely inundated during the recent Kerala floods. When he went to survey the damage in the shop after the waters receded, a long screw-nail pierced through his foot. Being a diabetic patient, the wound did not heal. He had to finally undergo a surgery to amputate his toes.

His wife is working as an office assistant in a private company, earning Rs.6000 per month after travel expenses. Their older daughter got married about a year back and younger daughter is still studying. The family had to spend a lot of money for the wedding, Satheesan’s medical treatment and also getting their house back into shape after the floods.

Satheesan’s shop is fully damaged, including the machinery and other electrical fittings. The machines will cost close to Rs. 1.2 lakhs and the shop repair will cost another Rs.30,000. The family is not in a position to invest such a large amount into the business. They already have a loan of around Rs.6 lakhs. He is currently unemployed, but is confident of getting back on his feet once the shop is renovated. They approached MicroCharity for support through a volunteer.

MicroCharity approves fund request of Rs. 65,000.
