Naveen lives in Tavarakere, Bangalore with his mother, elder sister and younger brother. His father is a drunkard, does not go to work regularly or look after his family. Naveen’s mother was bringing up the children by herself working as a house maid. But she fell ill recently and has not been able to work. A MicroCharity Volunteer met Naveen’s older sister, Dhanalakshmi out in the streets recently, begging for money in order to buy food. She took Dhanalakshmi her house and employed her as domestic help in an apartment. This 18-year old girl is very determined and wants to change the fortunes of her family by educating both her brothers with whatever money she earns.
Naveen completed 10th grade this year and got admissions in a PU college (similar to higher secondary) in Bangalore. Total fee is 14,500 for a year, out of which Rs.5,000 has already been paid by his sister. She requested help from MicroCharity to pay the remaining amount.
