Wheelchairs for people with permanent disability

MSW department of St. John’s hospital is helping people with permanent disability on World Disability day, December 3rd, by distributing wheel chairs. Earlier, the hospital used to give old wheel chairs to disabled patients who were getting discharged from the hospital after 6-12 months of treatment and without any movement of the body. These wheel chairs were from an NGO in the US, that procured old wheel chairs donated by people who purchased newer ones. They were then refurbished at mechanical workshops run by the Open Jail in Hebbal before giving to poor patients. But now, due to some changes in the import policy by India government, shipment of old wheel chairs from USA has stopped. It costs more to pay the import duty and bring it here.

They have identified around 20 people who are very poor and no means to buy wheel chairs by their own.  Misha, from MSW department of St.John’s hospital requested help from MicroCharity to support  few of them. Few other well wishers have committed to help them, and they are short by 5 wheel chairs. MicroCharity approved fund collection of Rs.37,500 to purchase 5 wheel chairs at Rs.7,500 per chair. We request your help in raising funds to give these physically-challenged people and their families some relief and hope! Let us join hands to bring freedom of mobility to a few burdened families!
