Financial Help for a Surgery

Mary is a staff nurse in a small hospital at Dharward, Karnataka, earning Rs.5,000 per month. This is the only income for her family consisting of her father, mother and a younger sister, who is still studying. About 8 months back, her father was diagnosed with intestinal stricture obstruction requiring laparotomy and attaching a colostomy bag. This surgery was successfully completed. Now he needs a follow-up surgery for bowel resection and removal of colostomy bag. He was working prior to the sickness, but he has not been able to work for the past 9 months.
Mary had approached MicroCharity at the time of the first surgery, but they were able to raise the fund with the help of friends and relatives. They have now requested financial help for a follow-up surgery. The surgery costs Rs. 50.000 on hospital charges alone. The family will have additional expenses on post surgery medicine, nutritional food and so on.

Fund Raising closed for this cause. We have raised Rs 50,000 from 15 micro donations in 8 days. We will be paying the money to hospital shortly.

The surgery of Simon, Mary’s father did not happen as planned. While the family was planning to admit him in the hospital for surgery, the hospital informed that Rs.50,000 they had quoted earlier would only cover the surgery. There would be an additional charge of Rs. 20,000 for medicines, scanning, lab and investigations etc.
The family has been struggling to raise the extra amount, and Simon’s surgery has to be postponed till they are able to arrange funds.This news came as a surprise to the MicroCharity team as well, since it is difficult to come back to our donors with the same case again. But even after waiting for a few weeks, the family is unable to raise the required fund. Hence we are left with no choice but to reopen this case again with a further request of Rs. 20,000.
