Nethravathi’s story sounds like a very dramatic movie-script. But it is real, different and heart-rending. Nethravathi is doing her second year GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) course in a college in Bangalore. Her father left them as soon as she was born. Her mother had a history of theft and consequent jailing. While in jail, she married another convict who is still in prison. Nethravathi’s mother is out of jail now and leading a normal life after some counselling related to prison rehabilitation programs, and staying with her new husband’s family.

While her mother was in jail, Nethravathi was taken to ECHO Jeevodhaya run by Holy Cross sisters, who primary work in the area of female prisoner rehabilitation. Nethravathi is good at studies and is continuing her studies with help from multiple well-wishers, including her mother and her new step-father who earns money by doing some work inside the jail. Nethravathi requested help from Microcharity in paying her college fee. The total fee for the course is Rs.20,000 each year for a 3.5 year course. They have already managed to pay Rs.35,000 including first year fee and hostel fee. They are now requesting Rs.20,000 to pay the second installment of the fee.
